Windows Installation: A Step-by-Step Guide

 Before starting, you'll need a few things:

A PC 💻 with a blank hard drive or SSD.

A USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of storage.

The Windows Media Creation Tool, which you can download from Microsoft's website.

Your Windows product key (optional, you can activate later).

Step 1: Create a Bootable USB Drive

First, you need to create a bootable USB drive that contains the Windows installation files.

Download the Media Creation Tool from the official Microsoft website and run it on a working computer.

Agree to the terms and select "Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC".

Choose your language, edition, and architecture (64-bit is the most common).

Select "USB flash drive" and choose your flash drive from the list. The tool will download the Windows files and create the bootable drive. This may take a while.

Step 2: Boot from the USB Drive

Next, you'll need to tell your PC to start up from the USB drive.

Insert the bootable USB drive into the PC where you want to install Windows.

Restart the PC and immediately press the BIOS or boot menu key (commonly F2, F10, F12, Del, or Esc). The specific key depends on your PC's manufacturer. Check your PC's manual or look it up online if you're unsure.

In the BIOS or boot menu, change the boot order so that the USB drive is the first device to boot from.
Save your changes and exit. The PC will restart and boot from the USB drive, launching the Windows Setup program.

Step 3: Install Windows

The Windows Setup program will guide you through the rest of the process.

Select your language, time, and keyboard layout and click "Next".

Click "Install now". If you have a product key, you can enter it here, or choose "I don't have a product key" to activate Windows later.

Accept the license terms and click "Next".


Choose "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)". This option lets you choose which drive to install Windows on.

Select the drive or partition where you want to install Windows. If it's a new PC, it will likely be "Drive 0 Unallocated Space". You can click "New" to create a partition, but it's often easiest to just click "Next" and let Windows handle it.


The installation will begin. The PC will restart several times. Do not remove the USB drive until the initial installation files have been copied. After the first restart, it's safe to remove it to prevent the PC from booting back into the setup program.

Step 4: Complete the Setup

After the installation finishes, you'll go through the Out of Box Experience (OOBE) to set up your account and preferences.

Follow the on-screen prompts to select your region, keyboard layout, and connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Sign in with your Microsoft account or create a new one. You can also choose to use a local offline account if you prefer. 


Set up a PIN for quick sign-in. 

 

Choose your privacy settings and let Windows finish setting up your desktop. 




Once you see your desktop, you're all set! Windows is installed. You can now install drivers and your favorite applications.
